Gynopessimism is an often subconsciously-held belief that the oppression of women is inevitable and irreconcilable with a derivation of joy from one’s own lived female identity. Gynopessimistic understandings of gender encourage women to discount any potential for enjoyment of their lived experience in favor of a subdued, yet sustained, resentment for their sexed body and the ways it is perceived by those around them. Gynopessimism prevents us from moving through the sludge that is the philosophization and critical awareness of misogyny and patriarchy into a newfound lived politic of aspirational and raucously-joyful womanhood. The joyful experiences of trans women can further elucidate a version of this lived politic.

Hair removal—in this case, electrolysis—can be an invaluable service to trans people that can allow us to feel more comfortable in our bodies and/or prepare for surgery. However, electrolysis can also be daunting and confusing to research, plan around, and have sessions for. Many, rightfully so, have lots of questions going in. This zine attempts to elucidate some of the details of electrolysis in the hopes that other trans people, and those who support us, may feel more adequately prepared and properly informed about this often-difficult part of our transitions.

This text is authored by a trans woman who has undergone around 100 hours of electrolysis and has since gone on to become a licensed electrologist.

How does our conception of time as a linear process benefit the power of the state, bolster capitalist processes, and keep us entrenched in the status quo? How can we counteract the trap of linear time and repurpose time so that it benefits our radical projects? This zine attempts to answer these questions and lay out a foundation for critically evaluating time, a construct often utilized to seduce us into complacency with oppressive conditions.
